Hi, I'm Jessica Shue.
I'm a wildlife advocate, animal carer, and artist based in Perth, Western Australia — and if you've landed here, chances are you love animals just as much as I do.
My name is Jessica Shue, and I am an advocate for wildlife and animal conservation and care. I like to further express my passion for animals through my artwork — and that's really where Square Safari was born.
About My Artwork
Although my main style is not what you would consider traditional art, I create three-dimensional digital models entirely by hand — no AI, no shortcuts, just me, my imagination, and a whole lot of cubes.
My work is created in a low-poly, pixelated art style, reminiscent of the beloved video games of recent generations that I've come to find genuinely charming and unique. There's something I find really interesting about translating the many complicated shapes of the natural world into a much more simplified form. It's actually more challenging than it sounds — within the limitations of this style, you have to be very deliberate about which details you choose to accentuate with additional cubes, and which details you decide to leave flat. Every design is a puzzle, and I love that about it.
My favourite subjects to model are elements of the natural world — particularly fauna over flora. I love modelling wildlife and domesticated animals alike. I'm also dipping my toes into more fantastical creatures — mythical beings from folklore and cultures from all over the world — as well as designing some fantastical beasts entirely of my own imagination.
I love the idea of all of these square creatures living together in one pixelated, blocky world of my own design, with each new creature adding more life to the concept.

This is honestly one of my favourite things to offer.
I also do blocky recreations of real individuals — people and their furry, feathery, and scaly friends — by recreating scenes captured in photographs that you provide. Send me a photo of your pet, your favourite animal, or even yourself with your animal companion, and I will hand-design a completely original pixel art portrait, just for you.
Your custom design can then be printed onto a t-shirt, hat, bag, or other item of your choice — making it a truly one-of-a-kind, wearable piece of art.
Every single custom piece is designed entirely by hand, from scratch, with no AI involvement whatsoever. It's just me, genuinely putting time and love into your design.

Why This All Matters to Me
On top of the voluntary work I already do regularly for animal and wildlife conservation, I wanted to find another way to contribute something meaningful using my other skills — the ones not necessarily required in animal husbandry. Artwork.
One of the primary reasons I wanted to create a brand out of my artwork was so I could use more of my skills to help support the efforts of animal conservation and care industries — whether that's helping to raise funds, raising awareness about real-world issues, or simply helping people develop a similar passion for the incredible life we share this world with.
I completed my Certificate III in Wildlife & Exhibited Animal Care through the Taronga Training Institute, gaining hands-on experience at Perth Zoo. I've volunteered for years with WA Wildlife, working with a huge variety of animals and gaining real-world experience in the field. Animals aren't just my art subject — they are genuinely my life.
Square Safari is where those two worlds meet.
